Cold Showers and a Puncture
First week of commuting after the Christmas period, how's it going? Well the building I work in has no hot water and is not likely to have until at least the end of the month. Icy cold showers for me this month then. Its been hard work getting up at 5:30 everyday this week but only tomorrow and then its the weekend. Swimming has been hard work too, why does the swim fitness dissappear quicker than the run/cycle fitness? Today I had my second punture whilst commuting, can't complain though at 2 punctures in six and a half months of cummuting. Tube replaced, co2 cannister emptied and back on my way, still made it to work on time too :-)

Daz, I admire your commuting to work on the bike at the moment. I just can't do it.
With the swim I suspect it's because like most people (myself included usually) you haven't really been doing a long enough ez warm up and jump straight in to reps at your old pace (relying on technique initially) rather than adding 5-10s to each rep from the start. You definitely wouldn't do that when running after 2 weeks off. :-). What do you think?
Thankfully, it's 11 degrees C down here in Amersham. I might actually cycle outside this weekend. Wow.
It will be above fridge temperature here as well and I'm riding with Mr Grok on Sunday :-).
Swim fitness - I think it's because it's actually much harder than people realise. Very technique and feel-dependent - it's not like 'riding a bike'! LOL!
Actually I found I lost run fitness the fastest, hardly lose anything on the bike generally at least not at endurance effort.
Actually thinking about it - swimming relies on the smaller muscle groups in the torso that aren't generally used during everyday life so perhaps time out of the pool has a bigger effect than say time not running or riding because you are still walking around and using the major leg muscle groups?
I reckon it's because Daz is crap at swimming.
8-)
