Sunday long run

Just done a long Sunday run, had a red wine hangover and there was lots of snow and ice on route. The course was on and off road and lots of concentration was needed with the ice, always being careful where to place your feet. The slow mile (7:15) was in a technical section of the woods with some very tight turns and logs to jump over but you can see the bits where the ground was good by the variation in the pace. Happy with the run and it felt comfortable, will enjoy trying this route in the summer to see how fast I can do it. Anyway details of the run are in the link below, I think you can change the map view to satellite to see the terrain changes?

Wittering cross country Garmin 910 data

I raced the Wittering cross country on Wednesday, very cold with plenty of snow and ice on the course meaning you had to be cautious when placing your feet on every step of the course. It was a chance to test the new Garmin 910xt out as well. Hopefully details are available via the link in this post? let me know if they don't come up. I had a good run given I was on a big bike week finishing 3rd. Hopefully if the link works you will see the mile splits etc with mile 1 and 4 being slow as that's the hill on the course otherwise all sub 6 min miles. Not sure what happened at the end, stopped the watch but it seems to have recorded part of the journey home? Still learning!

Talking of bike week, I clocked 225 - 230 miles commuting this week despite the horrible weather, just got to pop a 25 mile TT in on the turbo later today to reach my objective in the last post of 250 miles. Lanza grows ever closer only just over a week to go :-)

Also tested the pool feature on the 910 this week, did a very steady 1500 to see if it's as accurate in a pool as they say and it's superb. Lots of features available but I chose time, distance, average pace and stroke count. Outcome was 1500m, average 1:39, 25 mins, stroke average 8.4 per length (obviously double so average 17 per length).

New training partner iminent

I always train on my own and have done for many years. I've decided its time to get a training partner so hopefully it will arrive tomorrow. I've spent lots of money and gone for a Garmin 910XT as its time I upgraded my Garmin Forerunner 201 that I bought in 2005. This is one serious bit of kit and I look forward to using it. It has many features that I like and hopefully I will use it to its full potential.

Last week I had an fairly easy week as follows : Saturday run 8 mile, Sunday 25 mile TT on the turbo, Monday Run before work 5 mile, swim lunch 1500m and cycle home (22.5 mile). Tuesday cycle to work, 2k swim at lunch and drive home. Wednesday drive to work, race the RAF cross country champs finishing 14th and drive home. Thursday cycle to work, swim 2.2k lunch and cycle home. Friday and Saturday were rest days. This week is big bike week again and weather permitting I should rack up 250 mile on the bike by Friday evening. Only 2 weeks until Lanzarote :-)
